Today, 10th, August 2018, Cineworld At The O2 in London officially launched the ScreenX experience, the most revolutionary way to watch films on the big screen, which has also launched in Speke today.
ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection cinema technology which expands the traditional screen onto the auditorium walls, giving the viewer a 270-degree viewing experience for the moviegoers. The technology was developed and originated in South Korea and Cineworld Speke is one of the first UK cinemas to have the technology installed at its location along with Cineworld Greenwich O2 with Cineworld Leeds White getting the ScreenX technology in September.
The innovative technology uses an array of projectors with proprietary ScreenX software blending multiple images into one seamless image extending from the central screen out. ScreenX walls are installed with a fabric that ensures brightness and colours will closely match that of the main screen projection and extend the screen seamlessly. Strategically placed audio systems and speakers are used to ensure that sound does not become compromised during the immersive experience.
Back in 2015, Cineworld were the first cinema chain in the UK to introduce 4DX, the immersive sensory cinema experience, created by CJ 4DPLEX. ScreenX is set to be the second CJ 4DPLEX technology that will be available exclusively to Cineworld in the UK. Since launching in 2015, ScreenX has quickly and effectively increased its international reach, successfully screening both Hollywood blockbusters and local feature films alike. Past titles from major Hollywood have included; “King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword”, “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Black Panther”, upcoming films to feature on ScreenX are “The Meg” and “The Nun”.
“We know cinema is all about the experience and for this reason our technology is designed to connect cinemagoers more closely with the action”, said Byung-Hwan Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. “ScreenX mimics how the human eye interprets a visual by appealing to both our front and peripheral vision. It honours our commitment to break cinematic boundaries and create amazing cinema experiences.”
Andrew Starkie, General Manager of Cineworld Speke said; “We are delighted to be one of the first to bring ScreenX to film fans in the UK. We are driven by innovation and this fully immersive experience will transform the way our customers experience film. With a great line-up of films such as The Meg and The Nun, ScreenX will truly transport movie fans into the on-screen action.”
Speke moviegoers will pay £14.20 for the immersive ScreenX experience, the new technology builds on the already incredible offering available at the cinema, including SuperScreen which offers wall to wall, ceiling-high screen with breath0taking multidimensional Dolby Atmos sound.
